Juraj Prodaj was born and raised in Slovakia. Between 1997 and 2004 Juraj worked and lived in Italy, Ireland, Israel and Colorado in the US where he received further art education in Arapahoe Community College in Denver.Juraj's choice of wood as a main material can be traced to his childhood when he spent summers with his grandfather who was a woodworker his whole life. Juraj's father still makes furniture in his cottage high in the Carpathian Mountains.Wood, with its rich organic quality offers surfaces that convey the imperfect nature of this world, not to be rejected but embraced and worked with.Little imperfections like cracks, uneven colour and grain on wooden boards provide well suited material for Juraj's paintings and act as subtle enhancements rather than be deemed as flaws. Main subjects in his work include architectural details and street scenes, landscapes, portraits and more recently abstract.
His works are held in private collections in England, Ireland, Italy and the United States.
Juraj has been living and working in Bristol for the past 14 years.
